Cumhuriyet Meyhanesi

Tonight we went to the Cumhuriyet meyhanesi. "Cumhuriyet" means "Republic" and "Meyhane" is a kind of tavern, from the persian "mey" meaning "wine" and "hane" meaning "house". Usually it is a place where you eat meze and fish and where you drink the national alcool "Raki" (kind of like the Greek "Ouzo" or a stronger French "Pastis"). There was also a live band playing traditionnal Turkish music. There is always a very nice atmosphere, people will get up and dance along with the music.

By the way the Cumhuriyet Meyhanesi is one of the oldest meyhane in Istanbul and has an history of more than 110 years.

Teknosohbet Under Arrest

Today at the office we gathered all the cellphones we had and did this set up. In Turkey when people get arrested with guns or drugs or stolen good, the police have them posed like that. The actual program is here.

A new program has started : Kafa Kafaya (Head to Head). Hosted by Meriç and Burak from Burak.com. With 2 other programs (DanDun and Webrazzi) along the Teknosohbet show. It's all under a main website : Televidyon.

I dropped Ekin to work this morning and ten went to Bebek Cafe to have a nice breakfast ;)
The weather was splendid.

As I still was in Antalya for work,























Ekin was in Beykoz where she witnessed these fishermen's fishing technique. I've never seen that myself, I'm kind of jealous I didn't ;)
They put a net in the water. The guy on the mast stands there all day long and watch the fishes go inside the net. When the amount of fishes inside is considered relevant,







he warns the others who come on this 'boat' then shut the net and pull it over.






Ekin, then went to see her nephew as I was on the plane bringing me back to Istanbul.

Folkloric Dances

As I left work I saw a gathering. I went to check out what was going on. There was a show with dances from different regions of Turkey. This was organized by the mute and deaf association.

A Day at the Museum

Today I went to work and we went to the press conference given by Asus. They were presenting their new coming (to Turkey) eee PC. The press conference was held in the Rahmi Koç Museum where you can see some old mean of transport so we glanced around. The museum which is kind of a science museum also holds a temporary exhibition about the brain.
