Sinking Pier in Karaköy

Since yesterday strong southwestern winds are blowing toward Istanbul. Those winds are warmish but can be very strong. As a result the ferry pier that was on a barge in Karaköy, sank last night. So first thing I did today is go there and see it for myself. I was amazed to see the barge upside down. Is it that deep there ? Because on the barge there was a 1 floor building where the ferries would dock. A friend of mine who came this morning through another pier told me that all the ropes broke because of the waves and the wind.
The roof of the Taksim First Aid Hospital flew away too.

I like the "Police, Do not cross" thingy.

Muscles everywhere...

Incredible to find out that I don't have any picture of the pier itself. I'm sure I have one somewhere but I could not find it through the hundred thousands pictures I have ! I only managed to find this one. You can see the barge behind the docked ferry.

Turkcell @ MYK

Turkey's first GSM operator's CEO's (Turkcell) Süreyya Ciliv came to our office yesterday so we took a family photo but I got my own too ;)

Turkish Style

I saw this wonderfully newly installed window in the Cihangir District (Koca Ağa sokak). The guy who did this is definitely not qualified for this job. I can even do a better coating than that !!

Happy Birthday Dad

Today's Pictures by Beun

Those photos were taken by my good friend Benoit. He lives in Fécamp, France and I asked him to send me some pics from there as I miss it. I wanted to share them so here they are. Fécamp is a small city in Upper Normandy, at the heart of the Pays de Caux. Although small, Fécamp has a great History going back to the prehistoric times.

From Struer to Istanbul

This morning we went back from Struer to Copenhagen with this wonderful little plane. Then e spent 3 hours in the very nice Duty Free of the Copenhagen airport and took a plane back to Istanbul. It was nice to see the moon and the night rise on the left, and the sun setting on the right.

Denmark Day 02 : Struer - the Factory and the Museum

Then we visited the aluminum factory and other facilities where they teach us everything about sound, image, products, we could all master in a Bang & Olufsen degree. They told us everything but it was pretty exhausting.

Then we went to the Struer Museum which is actually a museum about the story of Bang & Olufsen with their product from 1925 to nowadays. We also had dinner there and could finally meet with our hotel bedroom at 11pm.

Denmark Day 02 : Struer - the Farm

Rainy day in Karup. We took a taksi to Struer, 50 km North West, the fare was pretty high, it coast 150 € to go there !

The farm of...

Mr Peter Olufsen himself. Nephew of one of the founder, Svend Olufsen. He was kind enough to invite us all to eat in his house surrounded by Bang & Olufsen products.

Denmark Day 02 : Copenhagen

Before leaving for the airport I took a look outside around the hotel in order to have a better idea of the city, but again I couldn't see much. Shops were still closed, people were rushing at work. But in general the streets seemed pretty empty. Not very surprising for a city with a population of 500,000, compared to the (approximately) 15 million people leaving in Istanbul.

This house was built in 1623 !!

Our wonderful plane that will bring us to Karup from where we'll then go to Struer, city of Bang & Olufsen. We will visit the factories, the farm and the museum.
Those of you who know I'm afraid of flying should know what I felt when I first saw the plane. But I was pretty cool and all went fine.
