World Press Photo of the Year 2009

The 52nd World Press Photo winner is U.S. photographer Anthony Suau (wikipedia; I got a Trojan Horse virus alert from AVAST while trying to load his personnal website) for a photo illustrating the subprimes crisis in the U.S.A. The photo was taken in March of 2008 and published in the U.S. Time Magazine and shows an armed police officer securing a house. Jury chair MaryAnne Golon said: "The strength of the picture is in its opposites. It looks like a classic conflict photograph, but it is simply the eviction of people from a house following foreclosure. Now war in its classic sense is coming into people's houses because they can't pay their mortgages."
